Startup Smarts; The Thinking Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Growing Your Business (Adams Media, January, 2010) is now available for sale through the on-line bookstore of Financial Advisor magazine. (www.fa-mag.com) Financial Advisor is published by Charter Financial Publishing Network in Shrewsbury, NJ. Financial Advisor experienced a meteoric rise to success in relative time, eclipsing all other publications ready by financial advisors, according to publishing audits.
Startup Smarts co-author Barry Cohen has been principal of AdLab Media Communications, LLC in Clifton, NJ for the past eleven years. His advertising career spans over 31 years. Startup Smarts is his second book, following the success of 10 Ways to Screw Up an Ad Campaign. Cohen has been a guest columnist for business and trade publications, as well, including Performance magazine, Radio & Records, Floorcovering Weekly and Tiempo de Mercadeo.
Cohen was thrilled when Financial Advisor's publisher Charlie Stroller, a former Dow-Jones employee, agreed to promote his book. With the recnet meltdown of brokerage houses, many advisors have decided to go out ontheir own. While they have the skills of their profession, many have never run their own company before. Startup Smarts will equip them to do just that, according to Cohen and Stroller. The title provides a real-world guide to startups, including legal structure and formation, taxes and accounting, funding and financing your business, sales and marketing, employee development and training, employment practices, etc. Cohen, a "bootstrap entrepreneur", teamed up with co-author Michael Rybarski of Houston, a serial entrepreneur. In addition to their own "in the trenches" experiences, the book reveals advice from a variety of experts, including attorneys, accountants and investment bankers. It also profiles successful entrepreneurs and offers a resource guide.
